Is there a hope?

I was always a very optimistic person, though I lived my whole life in Egypt!! Really, whenever a friend of mine, in any stage of my life, complained about life here, surroundings, poverty, ignorance, injustice,...............etc, I used to say:"comoooooooon, it's not that gloomy!! think about it in a positive way. A lot of people laughed at me, but others respected me. They used to say that I give them hope. So, my question here is: Can we change things? The older generations will never change of course, but can each of us, in his / her place makes things better? those who studied outside and came back frustrated, those who had a high class education and came to the outide reality of life, those who were raised in good manners, those who beleive in GOD and in "en Allaha la yo3'aiero ma b qawmen 7ata yo3'aiero ma b anfosehem", those who have kids who need to secure their future and get them the best environment to grow up and survive,................................ If I was asked about that few years ago, I would certainly have answered "yes of course, en shaa Allah we can", but now I am not sure, may be because of my terrible mood status? may be because of what I faced over the last few months? may be because I have this feeling that all people I am dealing with lost the common sense that ordinary persons should have?? I do not deny my frustration, but still very deep inside me I have that hesitating feeling that things might get better!! Please guys do not laugh at me! I am opening the discussion here for optimistic persons only! I need a push, so please if you can help me here, I would really really be grateful:) We can change things, right??

u need a push.. a push outside the borders :p

well, I think things won't change of their own accord. things will change sooner or later (everything does) but after a crisis so great that it would shake the country out of its roots.

peaceful change is a myth. ask WWII

Marooned,
Mashaa Allah, what an optimistic person:)
Listen, trying to change the current situation is an obligatory thing for every Muslim, no question in that. But who can do this? that's the question. And no, I do not need a push outside the borders, I just want to regain my old enthusiasm!!
Believe me, if everyone of us starts to think in a positive way, things might change, not on its on but we will be the ones who made this change.
By the way, what you said reminded me with an old thought of mine: this country needs e3sar noo7:)

hwa kan e3sar? tsada2i kont faro tofan :p

btw, u sound just like the "democratic" party. u sound just like that shameful propaganda "ne7akkem 3a2lenna netnayyel kolena"
we, the people, are only a product of a deteriorating situation. by blaming it on us, u're looking the wrong way. that's mainly why I'm so pessimistic about this country and think it's going down and down: that we don't even blame the criminals, but blame ourselves for being victimized!

Zallet 2alam, tofan of course.
I am not blaming people Mr!! You did not get me! All what I am saying here is that inspite of the misreble situation and the very bad circumstances we can try to change as much as we can. People who stopped doing their jobs long time ago saying that all others do the same!! I do not know what do you do for living but for sure you are surrounded by robberies, bad manners, lazy population,.......do you behave like them? if you do so then it is your fault my dear. Imagine that all of us do our jobs, only our jobs in a sencere way! Don't you think that this would make any diffrent?? This has nothing to do with democratics or ikhwan, it has nothing to do with the government or rulers, it is simply a matter of self-respect and real desire to change the current state of habal w ta7'alof....etc
Please please please, try to be positive:)

believe me, I did my best to be positive, but 2 months of el 3ashera msa2an made me decide that it's hopeless!

the fact is: we are mostly an undereducated, underpaid, almost unskilled population. why is that? because if it was any other way we'd have started to shout effectively for our rights (not like what's done now) we'd have made strikes that paralizes the country like they do in europe (in france a strike made it impossible to go from city to city for almost 2 days, in netherland life stopped completely for almost a week because of a policemen strike) because these guys know their rights.

my dear, if everybody did what they had to do, the big heads will be exposed and shoved right away, and they can't allow that to happen. if everybody did what they have 2 do, we'll all end up in jail!

I've been working as a translator for some months, doing freelance work to many people. I worked for more than 12 persons and companies, only one of them were egyptian, and - not suprisingly - they were the only ones who didn't pay!

whenever I talk about my work to anyone, the 1st question that pops up every time was "who would u make sure they'd pay u?" or if I was doing a job and got some money in advance it would be "why don't u stop working for them and look for another job, since u are already paid?" I was surprised at 1st, but then I started to get used to it and knew that we are people without trust, without morals, without even business sense. we are fahlaweyya, we take what we can and run, like dogs do when they see meat.

that's why we suck at business, and that's why we suck at everything else.

by your leave, I'll publish that in my blog! I didn't know where all that came from, but I'm bitter and u can see why.

so masr heya ommy huh! de fe 7ad zatha moshkela...

there was a time i shared ur opinions on masr being my home no matter what bla bla blah... until i opened up my eyes and started thinking what masr had given me... NOTHING!!

my father (God bless him) paid for my private education, a lot of what i wear is not even made in egypt, even back when i was a baby my diaper and my fav cheese were not egyptian made! all my hospitalization has been in private hospitals where masr had no contribution whatsoever!!! if anything, i have been paying masr tax money for every single little luxury i've had as well as necessities, and i never got anything in return... masr is a lot like what my x is to my kids... an ignorant parent who demands love, respect, acknowledgement and appreciation from a child he never cared for...

this is not pessimism, trust me... i just don't think masr is worth waiting for the better change!! masr betesma7 lel zalem yetmada fe zolmo we mesh betsaned el da3eef... take a look at el qawaneen kolaha, be it qanun el 3amal aw qanun el a7wal el shakhseya aw 7attta qanun el moroor... bezemetek el 7agat de ma3moola 3ashan meen, mesh 3ashan el zalem yetee7 fel ghalaba aktar...

ok i think i am more frustrated now...

looking forward to reading more of your blog :)

lol @ the ahmed zaki vs 3abdel nasser charisma....

ma3lesh, with all due respect, ahmad zaki was a brilliant actor, bas mahowash leader... his only leadership showed in the whole kaborya haircut, please don't get me started!!

as for abdel nasser, el 7elm el romancy el kebeer beta3 masr elly alabkaboos ma7adesh 3aref yes7a menno!! abdel nasser had charisma alright, but he lacked vision, proper vision, mashafsh gheer enno ye2dy 3al eqta3 we bala masr be masayeb le7ad delwa2ty masr ghar2ana feeha... yeah yeah, i heard all the makansh we7esh, elly 7awaleeh, but this is the responsibility of a good leader...
